Team Fiji under 18 discus thrower Brienna Rabakewa says her only focus at the 2024 Oceania Athletics Championship is to compete against herself and try and calm her emotions down when competing against other athletes.
The 17-year-old says one of the things she has learnt when participating in major competitions is that there are a lot of emotions involved and she tries to control that area whenever she goes out to compete.
Rabakewa says coming into this championship, she has set her mentality on enjoying herself while participating.
The Swami Vivekananda College student says she knows there will be a lot of support coming from her family and she just wants to make them proud.
Rabakewa will be competing in the under-18 female discus throw on Tuesday.
Day 1 of the championship is currently underway with the women’s Hammer throw finals. The track events will begin at 1pm with the under 18 Women’s 100 metres hurdles. The championship will continue till next Saturday at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
