The Republic Of Fiji Navy Vessel, RFNS Kikau has returned to the Fiji Navy after a significant restorative repair at the Norship shipyard in Cairns, Australia.
With the final stages of the repairs and trials completed last week, the vessel has been handed back to the Fijian Government.
Fiji Navy Operations Officer Commander Timoci Natuva says the ship left for Australia in April 2017 for a Life Extension Program for maintenance in Cairns, Australia.
Commander Natuva say the crew for RFNS Kikau led by Lieutenant Commander Joseva Tunidau left for Australia on 8th of this month, and went to Tasmania for training then to Cairns for onboard training followed by the handover on Tuesday.
Natuva says Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Commander Tunidau and his crew will now spend time on board HMAS Cairns preparing for an upcoming multi‑national exercise.
Meanwhile, the Fiji Navy also celebrates 43 years of service this week.
Natuva says activities conducted during the week include Navy skills where ships will test their skills against fellow comrades.
He says a commissioning parade was conducted yesterday where four midshipman received their first commission after two years of training.
Natuva says there will also be inter‑ship sports today with final celebrations to be held tomorrow.
