The Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto says they are in the process of hiring a professional psychologist.
He made this comment while responding to the Deputy Chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Salik Govind on whether counselling is provided for officers who are deployed to other countries for peacekeeping duties.
Rear Admiral Naupoto says currently there are no professional psychologists in the RFMF to offer counselling services to soldiers but they do seek services from some qualified psychologists who are enlisted with the force.
He gave an example of the case where 45 Fijian soldiers were trapped in Sinai in Golan Heights.
Commander Naupoto says these soldiers were provided proper counselling services.
There was no timeline given as to when they would complete the process of hiring a psychologist.
