The Real Estate Agents Licensing Board of Fiji and the Consumer Council of Fiji have recorded a combined $42.154 million worth of complaints in the Real Estate Sector since 2017.

This is mostly the loss of deposits that have been made by people to Real Estate Agents.

The two agencies will be carrying out awareness sessions in the Northen Division to provide guidance to the public on the documents they require when dealing with real estate agents.

The Compliance and Monitoring Officer for REALB Vinal Singh says bogus agents is one of the major issues in the North where some taxi drivers are illegally working as real estate agents where they are picking passengers directly from the airport and later showing them properties in the North.

He says they have received many complaints from the Northern Division and this is why is they are going to the North first.

REALB’s Chairman, Abdul Hassan says some Real Estate Agents are not following the law.

Hassan says a salesperson who has three years of experience and has been working under an agent can become a Real Estate Agent.

He adds there is no requirement for qualification to become a Real Estate Agent and this is a major issue they are facing.
