Qovuniceva and a juvenile charged with alleged murder of Tavua taxi driver

24-year-old Marika Qovuniceva and a 16-year-old boy who fronted court for the death of the Tavua taxi driver, have been remanded.

The two appeared in the Tavua Magistrates Court.

The case has been transferred to the Lautoka High Court and will be called again on the 24th of this month.

The 16-year-old has been brought to Suva and will be remanded at the Juvenile Centre.

Assistant Commissioner of Police-Crime Mesake Waqa says on the 1st of June, 2024, at Matalevu, Tavua in the Western Division, the two allegedly aided and abetted in the assault of Nitesh Kumar Chand, which caused his death.

The 33-year-old taxi driver was earlier reported missing. Police said Chand's body was found in Tavua.

His taxi was found abandoned in Dokanaisuva.
