The new Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs Lenora Qereqeretabua and the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Doctor Lesikimacuata Korovavala were accorded a welcoming ceremony at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday.

The Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Sitiveni Rabuka congratulated the Assistant Minister and the Permanent Secretary and wished them well in their new role.

Rabuka acknowledged the work of the Ministry staff and those serving at the Fiji Missions abroad and further says that its an opportunity for Fiji missions to provide an overview of their work and seek the guidance of the new leadership team at the Ministry.

Qereqeretabua’s appointment signifies a milestone achievement in Fiji’s foreign services with the first-ever female Assistant Minister appointed to the role.

In her remarks, Qereqeretabua thanked the Prime Minister and the people of Fiji for their confidence in her ability to assume the new leadership role.

With Dr. Korovavala’s appointment, the Ministry now has a Permanent Secretary based full-time at the Ministry headquarters.

Dr. Korovavala says it’s a great honour for him to join the civil service and he looks forward to further enhancing Fiji’s interests globally and regionally.

These appointments reflect the People’s Coalition Government’s commitment to establishing a strong leadership to advance Fiji’s interests in the international and regional arena.
