Four teams participated in this competition with Qauia coming out victorious.

The organisers expected more teams to turn up but due to the low turnout of teams, all the groups went home with cash.

Quaia band team leader Alifereti Ledua says the group was just formed last year after witnessing a group from another area banging drums and tins around the area during New Year's celebration.

He says they made up their mind that they can also form such a group and entertain around their area.

The 24-year-old says the group consist of youths from the ages of 12-years to 18- years old and most of them are school leavers.

He adds they entered this competition to showcase the talents of youths in Qauia and also change the perception of people about Qauia.

Ledua says they didn't expect to win the first ever Qiri Kava competition and are thankful to their supporters, parents and the community of Qauia for standing behind them in their journey.

Meanwhile, Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection Lynda Tabuya acknowledged the organisers for putting together such a competition that brings together people from different ethnic backgrounds.

She says they are hoping to have this competition as an annual event where Qiri Kava bands from around the country can come together to showcase their hidden talents.
