The Public Service Commission Chairman with the advice of the Prime Minister has appointed 6 new Permanent Secretaries and reappointed a few others.
Craig Strong who has been part of the General Management field and is currently the CEO of Pacific Cooperation Foundation, a New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs NGO leading economic and social development work in the Pacific region, will take his position as the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Fisheries on the 7th of January next year.
Pene Baleinabuli has been appointed as the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Forestry and he started work on the 15th of last month.
Baleinabuli’s last appointment was at the President’s office where he served as the Official Secretary for the past 6 years.
Sanjeeva Perera begins work as the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Housing and Community Development on the 2nd of next month.
Jone Maritino Nemani is the next Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Youth and Sports. He was the Chief Human Resource Officer and Governance Adviser for the Government of Nauru.
The Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Civil Service is Susan Kiran. She has significant experience in the machinery of government and in advising ministers on processes and administrative matters.
Kiran will continue to act as Permanent Secretary for Health and Medical Services until 15 May 2019 and will then take up her new appointment.
Joshua Wycliffe has been appointed as the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Waterways and Environment. Wycliffe’s previous appointment was as the Permanent Secretary for Local Government, Housing and Environment and he will continue to act on this position until its filled.
Osea Cawaru, the Permanent Secretary for Defence and National Security is reassigned to the position of Permanent Secretary for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations from 17 December 2018 and replaces Salaseini Daunabuna who has resigned to undertake post graduate studies overseas. Cawaru will also act as the Permanent Secretary for Defence and National Security until the position is filled.
Bernadette Welch the Permanent Secretary for Civil Service is reassigned to the position of Permanent Secretary for Health and Medical Services with effect from the 15th of May next year.
David Kolitagane has been reappointed as the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Agriculture, Shaheen Ali remains as the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism and Naipote Katonitabua maintains his position as the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs.
Alison Burchell remains as Permanent Secretary for Education.
Yogesh Karan continues as the Permanent Secretary for the Office of the Prime Minister and the Sugar Industry & Immigration while Meleti Bainimarama maintains his position as the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development.
These reappointments are for the next three years.
Jitendra Singh, the Permanent Secretary for Public Enterprises, will be retained as a Permanent Secretary until the 31st of March next year to assist with the consolidation of the Ministry of Public Enterprises into the Ministry of Economy, ensuring a seamless transition into a single and more efficient body.
