It was a proud moment for Filipe Sauturaga’s sons as they watched their father play against Ireland in the quarter final of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games Rugby 7s Competition.
While speaking to fijivillage News, Sauturaga’s mother, Aqela Nukunawa, says the family was happy to witness both Iosefo Masi and Sauturaga playing together as siblings in the second half of the game.
Nukunawa says she could not control her emotions when the Fiji team defeated Ireland.
She also wished Sauturaga, Masi, and the team well in their preparation for the semi final and hopes they will bring victory to the nation.
Ba Rugby Union Secretary, Gabriel Kautoga, says the Vanua of Ba is proud of the way Joji Nasova has been performing on the field, especially in the game against Ireland.
Kautoga says he is not just wearing the white jersey but also representing the Vanua of Ba and his family.
He also highlighted for a village boy to be trained using available resources for a gym and now play on the international stage is a great achievement.
Meanwhile, the villagers in the district of Naqarawai ni Namosi were excited to watch Joseva Talacolo and Sauturaga playing in the quarter final.
A villager from Wainimakutu says every house with Walesi was crowded with villagers watching the Fiji team.
The Fiji Men’s 7s side will face Australia at 2am on Sunday in the second semi-final while South Africa will meet France at 1:30am.
The final is at 5.45am Sunday.
