The unfamiliar and rare sight of Marist Brothers High and Suva Grammar school students sitting together in the same hall and then playing touch rugby at the Marist grounds was witnessed yesterday.
Principals of both schools addressed the students in a joint assembly at Lambert Hall during a “veisorosorovi” or reconciliation ceremony held as a result of the brawls that took place earlier this month.
Suva Grammar Principal Waisake Ravatu said as school heads they take full responsibility for what had transpired.
He added the vast majority of students were not involved in the sad events.
Marist Principal John Atalifo said school rivalry will always exist but pleads to the students to make the right decision when confronted with a dilemma.
Marist Head Boy, Jone Veisamasama said they now hope that there will be a new beginning for Marist and Grammar.
Grammar Head Girl, Talei Gadekilakeba said although some sitting in Lambert Hall may not like the idea of reconciliation, they should remember that they should work together as citizens of this country.
She said moving ahead, the Grammar-Marist sports competition should be reintroduced.
