Proper standards, systems and more transparency as FCCC to now fix and declare fares and charges for the use of public service vehicles - Abraham

The CEO of the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission, Joel Abraham says they will set proper standards and systems in place and bring more transparency in the regulatory framework as the FCCC now has the powers to fix and declare the fares and charges for the use of public service vehicles.

Abraham says he met with the President of the Fiji Bus Operators Association over the weekend and they will also be speaking with individual bus operators as they move forward.

Abraham who was also the Chairman of the Independent Bus Fare Review Committee says previously the Review Committee was tasked to provide expert advice to the Land Transport Authority and now they will work closely with the LTA as they still have control over the issuance of permits and route licensing.

He says they will not speculate on whether there will be any changes to bus fares in the near future.

Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum had announced in October 2017 that the government will announce the committee that will review the bus fares with a view to looking at a reduction and the aim was to announce the new bus fares in 2018.
