A New Zealand-based Fijian political sociologist has won a Fullbright Senior Scholar Fellowship award to carry out research as a visiting professor at three leading American Universities.
Professor Steve Ratuva who is currently the Director of the Macmillan Brown Centre for Pacific Studies won the award after a competitive research assessment, review and interview process.
The University of Canterbury says this is also in recognition of Professor Ratuva’s international research expertise as an interdisciplinary social scientist.
University of Canterbury says part of the reason why he was selected for this award is because he was the former President of the Pacific Islands Political Science Association research committee on Democratization.
They add that he had also been a consultant for a number of international organisations such as UNDP, Asian Development Bank, Commonwealth Secretariat, International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance.
They say that part of his recognition was to acknowledge his recent appointment to Chair the International Political Science Association.
