Fiji’s founding fathers have been hailed as gigantic leaders who prioritized the nation’s interest above all else to secure its Independence.
Deputy Prime Minister and National Federation Party Leader, Professor Biman Prasad paid tribute to NFP’s founding father A.D. Patel, his successor Siddiq Moidin Koya and Fiji’s first Prime Minister Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara.
Professor Prasad says these leaders put aside their differences to ensure Fiji’s nationhood and sovereignty, achieving a peaceful transition from 96 years of colonial rule to Independence on October 10, 1970.
He says this as a monumental achievement made possible through genuine dialogue, consensus-building and negotiation.
Professor Prasad says these principles form the cornerstone of NFP’s foundation, leading to achievements like the thriving sugar industry and the 1997 Constitution.
He says that the Coalition Government is focused on consensus, goodwill and bipartisanship to build one nation, one destiny, just as the country did 54 years ago.
He is urging all Fijians to remember the giant strides made by the founding fathers and to cherish the spirit of unity and understanding that brought Fiji freedom, calling for continuous cooperation to leave behind a united and hopeful nation for future generations.
