A private water dam in Ba is now closed after the Health Authorities and the Government Heads gave the directive that water from the dam is not clean for drinking.
Advisory Councillor of Nukuloa and Tabataba in Ba, Arun Sharma said the closure of the dam will affect more than 2,500 residents in the nine settlements.
However Sharma said clean water is now being supplied to the affected households.
Sharma also revealed that the problem is huge.
Meanwhile, the Divisional Health Inspector Western Rakesh Kumar said they took water samples from the dam after 23 cases of Leptospirosis and 12 cases of Hepatitis were found from the same area.
Kumar said they found bacteria in the water as the dam was also accessible to animals.
