President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere has urged the province of Tailevu to ensure that chiefly titles are filled as this an issue faced around the country.

While opening the Tailevu Provincial Council Meeting at Nasautoka Village in Wainibuka, Tailevu, Ratu Wiliame says when chiefly titles are filled, it will assist in the well planning of village or community development, especially the uplifting of people's lives.

He says this year, Cabinet has agreed to increase the allowance of the Yavusa and Tikina leaders to assist in serving the people.

He adds it is also to improve leadership service to the people.

The President also acknowledged the Kubuna Confederacy for installing their high chief earlier this year which has given assurance to the other two confederates of the leadership role in guiding the Fijian people.

Ratu Wiliame also highlighted that only through unity, everything that has been planned will be achieved.

In his concluding remarks, Ratu Wiliame thanked the people of Tailevu for keeping the i-Taukei tradition alive and also ensuring our culture lives on.

Attending the meeting was the new Minister for Education, Ifereimi Vasu, Minister for Rural and Maritime Development, Sakiasi Ditoka, the Permanent Secretary of I-Taukei Affairs Pita Tagicakirewa, government delegation, members of the Tailevu Provincial Council, and the people from the 22 Tikinas in Tailevu.

The Tailevu Provincial Council Meeting will be held today and tomorrow at Nasautoka Village in Wainibuka, Tailevu.
