President launches National Clean Up Campaign

“We can live longer and healthier and more fulfilling lives if we keep our environment clean.”

This comment was made by the President Jioji Konrote while launching the ‘Fight the Bite – Clean up Fiji Campaign’ at the Nasinu Town Council car park today.

Konrote says that when we keep our environment litter free, we limit the spread of diseases including mosquito borne diseases.

He says without the individual household and community efforts in eliminate these breeding sites it is not possible to effectively control the spread of Dengue, Zika and Chikungunya virus.

Minister for Health Jone Usamate says this clean up campaign will be successful with the help of the communities.

A volunteer from Lami who is working for the Ministry of Health, Isireli Rabukawaqa says that cleaning the environment and keeping it healthy should be done every day.

This Fight the bite - Clean up Fiji Campaign will continue for another three weeks.
