President Jioji Konrote is on a brief visit to South Korea before he travels to London.
He met with Fiji’s diplomatic staff and was briefed on the work of the mission to strengthen bilateral ties between Fiji and South Korea as well as with Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Laos and Myanmar ‑ countries that the Fiji mission in Seoul is accredited to.
President Konrote met with Fijian students studying in Korea and encouraged them to continue studying hard, not just for their future but for Fiji's future.
Fiji's Ambassador in Korea Filimoni Kau also briefed him on the opportunities that the mission intends to use to strengthen ties with Korea through the various sectors including education, trade, tourism, health, forestry, port development, rural development, agriculture, renewable energy, and defence cooperation.
The President will then travel to London where he will be meeting with Her Majesty the Queen, Queen Elizabeth II.
He will also visit Fijian troops stationed in the Middle East.
The visit to the troops is a continuation of a long‑held tradition where the President and Commander‑in‑Chief of the Military personally visit the troops to reassure them, and the world, of Fiji’s commitment to contributing to peacekeeping duties as part of its services to humanity.
