Dreams became a reality for 46-year-old Meena Gounden when she decided to take a leap of faith, left her cleaning job to start her poultry farm.
Gounden’s farm is located in Coqeloa, Vanua Levu where she began her business with just 200 trays of eggs while today she sells about 600 trays of eggs in a month.
She says running a business was not easy as she did not know how to and faced challenges including finance, water and electricity supply.
The 46-year-old says it was her strong willpower and dedication that kept her going along with her family’s support.
She has also created job opportunities for three other women from her community through her farm.
Gounden says life is all about ups and downs, however if one can overcome the situation and plan for their future things will be much easier.
Gopal’s Poultry Farm also received a grant of $6,000 from Business Link Pacific under the "Inclusion" category to enhance the business ability of youth, women and people with disabilities.
She says with the grant she has purchased layer chicks and layer feeds for her business.
