Potato cultivation will remain in the Western Division next year.

This confirmation comes from the Department of Agriculture in spite of interest from potential farmers in other parts of Fiji who wish to grow the crop.

Director for the Crops Extension Division, Uraia Waibuta said they have just completed the two years trial period of the crop and there were still some issues that needed to be addressed.

He added they still have to determine the type of soil that is most suited to potato and the crops optimum temperature and humidity tolerance.

Fiji imports about $17-$19 million worth of potatoes annually.
