“There is a need for agriculturalists to grow intellectually and operationally from a narrow focus on agriculture and research to a better understanding of rural societies and their needs.”
This was said by the Permanent Secretary for Agriculture, Ropate Ligairi when opening the symposium on the Ministry’s Fiji 2020 Agriculture Sector Policy Agenda.
Ligairi said the policy which is the first of its kind in our country focuses on modernizing agriculture.
He said the Ministry has identified five strategic actions in the policy documents to address the problems in the agriculture sector.
Ligairi said the symposium theme “Modernizing Fiji’s Agricultural Sector through Holistic Approach” fits well with the Ministry’s Fiji 2020 Agriculture Sector Policy Agenda.
He also said the topics covered in the symposium ranges from production, marketing, processing, agroforestry and training.
