Police have yet to question anyone in relation to a viral video circulating on social media for allegedly inciting violence.
In the video, a man residing overseas is allegedly abusing and threatening the Prime Minister, and inciting violence and hate speech against the government.
The video remains on his page and questions are being asked on what is being done to remove it from social media.
Commissioner of Police, Rusiate Tudravu has directed the Criminal Investigations Department to investigate the viral video circulating on social media.
Tudravu is reminding social media users to exercise their rights to freedom of expression with caution.
He says social media users need to exercise their freedom of speech responsibly as some of them are engaging in cyber-bullying, harassment, and the spread of hate speech which has caused division among communities.
He says it is worrying to see social media being used in this manner.
The Commissioner is urging people to be mindful of their social media usage.
He says the Fiji Police is working closely with the Online Safety Commission of Fiji in the investigative and preventative efforts to promote safer online environments, so that digital platforms can be used productively and proactively as per its original intent.
