Police have set up a Special Response Command Unit at Mead Road Housing from last Saturday, which also has live CCTV cameras hooked up from the area to the National Command Centre.
The area has had a number of reports of criminal activities in the past and many residents have also raised numerous concerns about alleged marijuana and methamphetamine deals, violent attacks, brawls and even attacks on Police officers.
Some people were earlier arrested and charged.
However Police spokesperson, Ana Naisoro says they are using this new approach now as this is a very effective way to deal with crime in the densely populated areas.
Naisoro says they have live camera feeds from the public areas to their main centre.
Members of the public can also contact the Police Special Response Command Unit if they know of any criminal activities in their area.
Similar command units are expected to be set up in other densely populated areas.
