Police record 9 cases of arson, attempted arson or alleged arson this year

The Fiji Police Force has recorded 60 cases of structural fires so far this year where 9 of them have been classified as either arson, attempted arson or cases of alleged arson.

Fire incidents is a growing concern in the country at the moment with 6 cases reported in the last few weeks, including two incidents yesterday.

Police say they have recorded an average of 6 to 10 fire incidents every month since 2019.

They say majority of the cases were as a result of electrical faults or unattended fire hazards.

Police say majority of the incidents could have been avoided and they are urging Fijians to be aware of fire hazards in and around their homes.
