Police are now re-looking at the investigations in relation to the murder of New Zealand national Ashkan Farsani on the 8th of May last year as the case against a man who was previously charged has been discontinued.
Spokesperson Ana Naisoro says they are also re-looking into the issues advised by the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The DPP had earlier filed a discontinuation for the case against a man who was previously charged for Farsani’s murder following a review of newly-obtained police evidence in the case which suggested there were sufficient deficiencies in the prosecution case.
The man was charged with a count of murder and a count of possession of illicit drugs. He had in his possession 101.3 grams of cocaine.
During this case, it was also revealed in court that prosecution had been awaiting further investigation in the conspiracy of illicit drug trade.
There is no confirmation yet on whether the same man who was charged earlier will be investigated.
DPP Christopher Pryde said a matter will only proceed through the courts if the evidence shows a reasonable prospect of conviction.
He adds it was clear following the review that the prosecution case did not meet this threshold.
He says the case has now been referred back to the police for further investigation and fresh charges will be considered depending on the results.
New Zealand businessman, Ashkan Farsani was dropped off at the CWM Hospital on 8th May last year with stab wounds found on his chest.
He was later pronounced dead after doctors failed to revive him.
It was earlier alleged that the stabbing took place in Lami.
Farsani was involved in the dalo export industry in Fiji.
