Police make plans for the security of polling stations on election day

Police are now making necessary plans on how it will provide security at all the polling stations around the country on election day.

More than 1,800 polling stations are expected to be set up around Fiji.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Rusiate Tudravu said the Fiji Police Force currently has approximately 4,000 police officers including Special Constables.

He said the main issue the Police Force is facing in preparation for the one day general election is funding.

Tudravu said they have submitted their Police General Elections Budget request to the Minister for Defence, Joketani Cokanasiga.

When questioned by Fijivillage about the allocation of Police Officers during the General Elections, Tudravu said they have everything planned out for the safety of the public.

Tudravu also said the next phase is training and conducting  awareness programs next month for all personnel that will be on the ground during the elections.
