A teacher’s allegation that he was sexually assaulted by another teacher while accompanying him at a workshop during the school holidays in May is being investigated by police.
The teacher, who wishes to remain anonymous, says the alleged incident occurred at an accommodation in Suva, but he only filed the report in October as he was threatened by the teacher, who allegedly said he would have him dismissed.
The Lautoka teacher says that the Sexual Offences Unit has his medical report and statements, but months have passed without any apparent action being taken.
He says a report was filed with the Ministry of Education, but claims no action has been taken against the accused teacher so far.
While responding to concerns about the delay in the investigation, police say the delay is due to the release of certain information from the management of the accommodation where the two stayed and where the alleged incident took place.
They have assured people that the investigation is ongoing.
The Ministry of Education is yet to respond to our questions.
