Quick response by Namaka Police led to the arrest of a man who tried to rob a shop keeper in Westfield, Nadi, yesterday afternoon.

Chief Operations Officer, ACP Abdul Khan says three officers were deployed after the report was received, and upon arriving at the scene they were confronted by the suspect who was armed with a cane knife.

Khan says the officers were able to subdue the suspect and in the process, two officers sustained injuries.

He says the suspect also sustained injuries and is being treated at the Nadi Hospital with the two officers.

Khan says operations are on high alert to opportunistic crimes such as robberies and theft this festive season, and they have adopted the necessary operational posture to ensure the smooth conduct of security details for the General Elections as well as routine operations.
