The Acting Sergeant of the Fiji Police Force Apisai Dredreyara who is the prime state witness in the murder trial of Usaia Kilaiverata has revealed in the Suva High Court that he forgot to write notes while reconstructing the murder scene.
Kilaiverata is alleged to have murdered his partner Losana McGowan on 4th April last year in Toorak.
Dredreyara agreed with defence lawyer, Samanunu Vaniqi when it was put to him that Kilaiverata’s partner fell down from the steps and hit a gas tank during an argument.
However, it was highlighted by Dredreyara that this piece of evidence in not recorded in the caution interview.
High Court Judge Justice Priyantha Fernando then asked Dredreyara why this information was not recorded.
Dredreyara said he forgot to do it.
Dredreyara also agreed in court that when Kilaiverata had sobered up, he had realized what he had done and was grieving.
During the re-examination by state lawyer Michael Delaney, Dredreyara also stated that Kilaivereta had tears in his eyes.
Dredreyara said he had recorded this in a rough piece of paper.
Delaney then asked Dredreyara if he can go back to Totogo Police Station to bring the paper to court.
Dredreyara told the court he cannot do this as he has put the paper somewhere.
Delaney told the court that as DPP they will direct Dredreyara to get this information in court.
Dredreyara had earlier told the court that Kilaivereta had confessed in the caution interview that he had punched and kicked his partner which resulted in her death.
Meanwhile the first state witness, Winston Hill told the court that he and Kilaiverata were staying in the same building in Toorak.
Hill also told the court that he heard a constant thudding sound coming from Kilaivereta’s flat in the early hours of 4th April last year and it was like someone was hitting the wall.
Hill told the court that he thought Kilaiverata was hitting his head on the wall in regret of something.
It is alleged that Kilaiverata assaulted 32-year-old Losana McGowan during a heated argument after returning from clubbing last year.
The trial will resume later this morning.
