Plans underway to upgrade Nausori Airport by end of next year

Plans are underway to upgrade the Nausori Airport runway and terminal by end of next year or beginning of 2016 when the Nadi International Airport upgrade nears completion.

This has been confirmed by Airports Fiji Limited Chairman Faiz Khan who said that currently the runway has limitations where only smaller 737 aircrafts can take off with restricted load capacity.

Khan said by extending the runway there will be the opportunity of opening Nausori and the wider Suva area to larger capacity aircrafts.

He added that the project budget is yet to be finalized but is expected to cost around $40 million.

Khan confirmed that the project will be largely funded by Nadi Airport profits and cash flow.
