There are plans to set up radio therapy services at the Aspen Lautoka Hospital in the near future.
This was highlighted by the Chief Medical Adviser Dr Jemesa Tudravu at the World Cancer Day – Landmark Lighting event at the GPH last night.
Dr Tudravu says this is a significant undertaking and a first for Fiji.
Dr Tudravu also highlighted that in Fiji it is estimated that we diagnose more than 1000 cancer cases each year.
He says the World Health Organization's cancer country profile for Fiji shows that in 2018 more than 1,500 cases were diagnosed.
Dr Tudravu further says that cancer is also being estimated for 13.5 percent of all pre-mature NCD deaths in Fiji.
