Students of Bau Island will soon travel a shorter distance to attend school daily.
The Government has come up with a plan to build a school called Bau Central College in Mokani, Tailevu, to cater for the students of Bau and those living along Bau Road and nearby areas.
Nayavu District Officer Apimeleki Buluvakaca said students from Bau Island face problems going to school during bad weather.
Bau Central College Manager Epineri Mateteilevuka said the people of Bau Island are thankful to the Government and landowners of Mokani Village for giving the land to build the school.
The cost of building the school is $5.6 million and will be constructed by engineers from the Republic of Fiji Military Forces.
The school will be completed within the next four years.
