Minister for Health Ifereimi Waqainabete noted plans to reopen the old Yalavou Nursing Station for better medical access on the East Bank Sigatoka River.
Waqainabete highlighted this during a joint visit to the Bemana District with the Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Disaster Management and Meteorological Services, Jone Usamate.
He says when the Sigatoka River gets flooded, it is very difficult to cross.
Waqainabete says accessibility to nursing stations and roads is not limited to one particular ethnic group, it is actually all Fijians on that side of the river.
He says if somebody is sick, we want to ensure that they will not have to take two hours to access a health center.
The Minister also mentioned that Tuvu Nursing Station on the Valley Road‑side of the Sigatoka River is going to be relocated to higher grounds, and has been given the consent of landowners.
Waqainabete says villagers of Tonuve and Vulinagerua in Bemana also took the opportunity to raise various concerns and requests with both ministers during a talanoa session.
Fijians living in Bemana District, Nadroga can now look forward to better access to services through upgrades to roads, water sources and health facilities in the area.
