560 field pit toilets have been installed by the Ministry of Health in villages and settlements around Vanua Levu as part of efforts against the spread of Dengue, Diarrhoea, Leptospirosis, and Typhoid.
They also assisted eight communities with water to prevent disease outbreaks with typhoid and other water-borne diseases.
Both projects are part of their WASH program.
While on his visit to the Northern Division, the Minister for Health and Medical Services, Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete says cleanliness is an important factor in maintaining our health and is pleased that their officers' advice has been heeded and taken seriously by communities that experienced outbreaks of typhoid and dengue.
Waqainabete says the Dreketi Health Centre has been relocated to the Government quarters while the Savusavu Hospital will be extended and staffed so people of Cakaudrove can access services only available at the Labasa Hospital.
