An Australian Federal Court has been told that notorious conman Peter Foster is probably still living on or around the Gold Coast.
The Courier Mail reported Australian police have an arrest warrant for Foster, who claimed he has been in Fiji since he failed to appear in the Federal Court for his October 24 sentence to three years jail for contempt.
At a Federal Court directions hearing about Foster’s recent appeal against his sentence, Justice John Dowsett asked what had been done to find or extradite him.
Barrister David Kent, for the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, said it was unlikely there would be a need to extradite Foster as they are very doubtful Foster is anywhere other than in Australia.
Foster recently sent pictures to Australian authorities of himself brandishing Fijian newspapers and other items, suggesting he is in Fiji.
A court is yet to rule on allegations that Foster conned $6 million from 90 investors and franchisees with his weight-loss spray Sensa-Slim.
Fiji’s Immigration Department had confirmed that it has not recorded the entry of Australian citizen Peter Foster through any of Fiji’s air or maritime borders.
Foster is wanted in Fiji for charges relating to obtaining a work permit using false documentation in 2006.
The department had said if Peter Foster is in the country, he will be apprehended and these charges will be reactivated.
If found guilty, Peter Foster faces a potential jail sentence.
Foster has been on Fiji’s watchlist after he fled from the country in 2007.
