Ba has received a major boost with the mining lease granted to Amex Resources Limited of Australia.
Special administrator Ba Town Council Arun Prasad said they are grateful for the step taken as it will create many jobs and help solve the flooding issue.
He said it is a relief that the Ba River will be dredged in the mining process.
Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama said the project represents a 21 year undertaking from the Australian company.
The initial investment to commence the removal of iron ore from the delta of the Ba River will be close to $150 million and approximately $75 million will be spent on shore in Fiji.
300 full time and 50 short term jobs will be created for Fijians when the project starts in Ba.
