Students studying using benzine lights at night in Vunivere, Seaqaqa will soon be a thing of the past as the Fiji Electricity Authority has approved a major rural electrification project for the area.

FEA Chairman Dakshesh Patel made this announcement while handing over the $20 million dividend cheque to Attorney General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

Patel says that the rural electrification initiative is the highest this year which will enable them to reach thousands of other families throughout Vanua Levu.

Meanwhile Sayed- Khaiyum says that people living in rural areas have been deprived of electricity services for too long.

He stresses that the rural electrification project will also roll out in other parts of Vanua Levu.

It is not confirmed when this particular project in Seaqaqa will start.
