People from all walks of life pay tribute to late Speaker of Parliament

Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Jone Usamate wrote a message of condolence in the condolence book in honor of the late Speaker of Parliament

People from all walks of life are paying tribute to Fiji’s first female Speaker of Parliament, the late Doctor Jiko Fatafehi Luveni who passed away last Saturday at the age of 72 after a short illness.

Among those that wrote a message of condolence in the condolence book in honor of the late Speaker of Parliament at the Parliament Foyer today was the Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Jone Usamate.

Usamate says Doctor Luveni was not only a longtime friend but a mentor.

Also paying tribute to Doctor Luveni today was 63-year-old Social Worker Siteri Gonelevu who recalled fond memories of her interactions with Doctor Luveni.

President of Fiji Pensioners Association Hari Raj Naicker says Doctor Luveni has done a lot for nation building.

Members of the Opposition in Parliament have presented their ireguregu to the family of the late Speaker of Parliament Dr Jiko Luveni.      

Opposition Leader Sitiveni Rabuka led the delegation which included the Leader of National Federation Party Biman Prasad, Lynda Tabuya, Mosese Bulitavu, Adi Litia Qionibaravi, Salote Radrodro and some party supporters.

The government delegation will present their ireguregu tomorrow.

The Department of Legislature presented their ireguregu yesterday to the family of the late Speaker of Parliament Dr Jiko Luveni, led by the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Veena Bhatnagar and the Secretary General to Parliament Viniana Namosimalua.

Doctor Jiko Luveni will be laid to rest this Saturday.

The funeral service will be held at Centenary Church in Suva.
