People can now watch free-to-air live TV on a new Walesi Mobile App.
While launching the app, the Attorney‑General and Minister for Communications, Aiyaz Sayed‑Khaiyum acknowledged Walesi for providing Fijians with free‑to‑air television and stated that the new mobile application would ensure Fijians are able to watch live television.
Meanwhile the Attorney General also officiated at the signing of the agreement for the Savusavu to Suva cable system between the Fijian Government and telecom operators.
Sayed‑Khaiyum stated that the setting up of the cable would ensure a significant boost to the connectivity speeds between Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.
He says currently we have microwave linkages which has speeds of 2 gigabytes per second and this cable will improve it to 100 gigabytes per second.
Sayed‑Khaiyum says it will have the potential to go up to 8 terabytes per second and this did not exist in Vanua Levu.
He says the government borrowed $5.95 million from the World Bank for this and gave $1.507 million while the total cost is $7.457 million.
