Sonic the Hedgehog earned US$57 million over the weekend, besting the US $54 million launch of Detective Pikachu to snag the biggest debut ever for a video game-based movie.
An early trailer for the film, starring Jim Carrey, was poorly received last May, prompting the studio to redesign the title character.

Aronson says this movie exceeded audiences expectations and that is a testament to that reset and terrific performances by Jim Carrey and the entire cast.
