The role of women and girls in Pacific futures will be examined in the first ever Pacific Islands Forum Women Leaders meeting.
The meeting which will be held today will have a keen focus on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on women in the region, the climate change crisis and disaster risk responses, and the 2050 strategy for the Blue Pacific continent.
The inaugural Pacific Islands Forum Women Leaders will meet virtually is being hosted by the Fijian government.
The meeting marks a significant milestone for the Pacific gender agenda.
Minister for Women, Children, and Poverty Alleviation, Rosy Akbar, who is the head of the delegation representing the host country, will be chairing the meeting.
Akbar says it is vital that the voices and vision of Pacific women, in all their diversity and experience, shape the futures of communities and nations.
The virtual event will deliver outcomes and recommendations to the Forum Leaders for their 51st Forum meetings in 2022.
