Fiji men’s volleyball team lost to Tahiti 3 sets to 1,in their opening game at the Pacific Games in Honiara last night.
The Tahitians dominated the first three sets but Fiji showed guts and resilience to win the final set 25-21.
Blocker Joji Katia defended well for Fiji in the fourth set with some crucial blocks.
Veteran Qilu Elliot and Antonio Raturaba kept their composure and navigated the side throughout the contest.
The 2019 Pacific Games volleyball winner took out the first set 25-23.
Fiji’s determination was clear when they kept possession with two deuces in the fourth set but the Tahitians showed their class with a 26-24 win.
Fiji men’s last won a medal at the Pacific Games in 2003 with a silver and is hoping to resonate those results.
Fiji plays American Samoa at 1 pm today.
