Director of Pacific Cement Limited Nouzab Fareed has confirmed that Pacific Cement will have at least 50% of cement production commencing by June 20th.
While speaking to Fijivillage, Fareed also highlighted that an unexpected incident caused by their machinery has forced them to bring in four engineers and parts for their machinery from abroad.
He adds that if repair works are completed on schedule, Pacific Cement will have a fairly good chance to start supplying at a small scale.
When asked by Fijivillage about what plans were in place for the old machinery, Fareed says that Pacific Cement machinery is old but can still produce cement.
Fareed reiterated that full production will commence in mid-August as a major part needed for their machinery had been ordered prior to the incident and is expected to arrive in late July after which full production of cement will be underway.
When asked on what was the major part, he said that this is all the information he can give.
He says the cost of the repairs is estimated to be less than $0.5 million however Pacific Cement continues to work with stakeholders in the national interest to ensure that the building and construction sector does not suffer.
