The Public Rental Board has requested for the grant subsidy which assists financially disadvantaged tenants to continue in the 2021-2022 National Budget.
They made the request in their budget submission to the Ministry of Housing.
Acting General Manager Patrick Veu says they have made some estimates and qualified it before making the submission.
He says the grant subsidy by the government has been a much needed on-going assistance for financially disadvantaged tenants.
Veu says they have also submitted some new projects they want to do in the next financial year and more details on the projects would be released based on approvals for funding.
The PRB is owned by government and managed by a Board of Directors.
The Board’s operations are undertaken by staff of Public Rental Board.
Currently 1,554 rental flats are rented or available for renting at any given time from 20 rental estates.
The organisation has continued to face shortfall in the supply of rental units especially in the greater Suva area.
Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum will deliver the 2021/2022 National Budget at 7.30 tonight.
