PNG Police have fired several shots at Gerehu in Port Moresby chasing people away at the main bus stop.

Loop PNG reports that buses, taxis, shopping centres and schools are still closed today.

The reporters witnessed about four police vehicles firing shots and chasing people away.

People were waiting at the main bus stops trying to go to work and do their normal day to day business.

Meanwhile there are fears for the wellbeing of a number of students who remain missing after yesterday's unrest at the University of Papua New Guinea in Port Moresby.

This is after police opened fire on students ahead of a planned rally.

After police stopped students from leaving their campus and ordered them to disembark, tensions boiled over and some police started shooting.

Police said 23 people were reportedly injured from the unrest but said that no one was killed.

The students were marching from their campus towards parliament, where Prime Minister Peter O'Neill was due to face a no-confidence vote.

They have been protesting for the past five weeks demanding that the Prime Minister resigns over corruption allegations.
