Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has signed the condolence book for the late UN Ambassador, Satya Nandan who was Fiji's first diplomat to the United Nations following the nation's independence in 1970.
While paying his condolences, Bainimarama says with Nandan's passing, Fiji has lost a titan of diplomacy.
He says that he will remember him as a wise mentor and a humble servant of the people.
He adds Nandan represented the country with honor, humility and a level of professionalism that set the benchmark for Fijian diplomatic conduct.
The Prime Minister says Nandan was also considered a champion of oceans and a fierce advocate of island nations.
Bainimarama says Nandan also led Fiji's charge in finalizing the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea which forms the foundation of ocean protection and preservation to this day.
The Prime Minister pledges that he will keep the Pacific voices in the frontline of the global campaign to defend the oceans and the life it sustains.
Bainimarama highlighted that the late Ambassador left the planet in a better place which he found it and will also be remembered as a strong voice of the Pacific.
Also signing the condolence book after Bainimarama was the USA Ambassador to Fiji, Joseph James Cella.
