The students of Dobuilevu Muslim School in Ra had reason to smile after the opening of a new school block worth more than $465,000 by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.

While addressing the school, Bainimarama says the school was badly damaged in the Tropical Cyclone Winston last year and the students were also affected severely.

He says that all the schools around the country that are under rehabilitation works are being built on higher standards and resilience to severe effects of cyclones such as Winston.

The Prime Minister says that we need to prepare ourselves to face for what is to come because the experts have already warned us that more storms like Winston are going to become more frequent and severe in future.

He adds that 95% of the structures in our country were built without structurally approved plans leaving our students vulnerable and the government cannot afford to rebuild to that standard.

He stresses that all the rehabilitation works will take time but all will be worth it.

Bainimarama says that the government is trying to build a better Fiji.
