Future maritime students are set to gain valuable learning opportunities following the opening of the Fiji National University Pacific Centre for Maritime Studies building which was inaugurated today by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka.
The Prime Minister was honoured with a traditional ceremony before delivering his opening remarks, describing the new facility as more than just a building, as it is a beacon of hope and progress for the nation.
Rabuka says Fiji share a deep connection with the ocean, noting that its location by the sea is no coincidence.
He says the ocean has shaped Fiji’s communities, economy, and culture for generations, serving as both a lifeline and a source of unity.
He adds that equipping local youths with the knowledge and skills to lead in maritime industries will empower them to unlock new opportunities, drive innovation and contribute to the sustainable development of Fiji and the Pacific region.
