The new $25 million worth Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Hospital which will provide free life saving surgeries to children with Congenital Heart Disease has been opened.
While opening the state-of-the-art hospital, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says approximately 200 children are born in Fiji every year with Congenital Heart Disease.
Bainimarama says this hospital was born from the compassion and commitment of the Sai Global Federation of Foundations which delivers humanitarian services the world over.
The Prime Minister adds in 2016, the Sai Prema Foundation asked his Government for a piece of land and presented with the facts and noble intention of this project, his Government facilitated that requirement.
Bainimarama says despite the enormous challenges presented by a global pandemic, the Sai Prema team managed to bring in specialised equipment and technical expertise from around the world including the USA, Canada, Europe, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand to name just a few.
He further says in just three days’ time, Fijian children whose lives are very much at risk will receive expert care from a team of paediatric cardiac specialists and surgeons, and other medical professionals.
