Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and the current Chair of the Pacific Islands Forum has held a positive meeting with the President of Kiribati, Taneti Maamau during his first State visit yesterday.
Fiji Government says the meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations between Fiji and Kiribati and discussed the restoration of unity in the Blue Pacific family.
Both leaders acknowledged the strong kinship shared by Fiji and Kiribati, which has been founded on strong cultural identity, mutual respect and friendship.
The two leaders also reaffirmed the need to collectively work in unity and promote regional cooperation as highlighted in the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent.
Since the establishment of formal diplomatic relations in 1979, Fiji and Kiribati have enjoyed close friendly relations as members of the Blue Pacific family.
Rabuka arrived into Kiribati yesterday.
On arrival at Bonriki International Airport, the Prime Minister was received by Kiribati's Minister for Education and Secretary to Cabinet Alexander Teabo after which, he reviewed a guard of honour by the island's Police Services Brass Band.
Rabuka is expected to return today.
