The Prime Minister, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama congratulated the National Women's rugby 7s team for their achievement in Moscow this morning.

Commodore Bainimarama said that while every Fijian is naturally disappointed at our Men's side being beaten by New Zealand, the country is extremely proud and pleased at the performance of our women's team.

The Fijiana created history by winning their first ever major title by beating the Netherlands 12-10 to win the Bowl.

Commodore Bainimarama praised the Fijiana side for their spirited performance and said it signals a new era for women's rugby in Fiji and he wants to pay tribute to the team for the way in which they fought hard for their two point win, and they have brought great credit to our country and deserve a tremendous reception when they return.

The Prime Minister added that this achievement has set a great example to young women and their win is bound to increase the participation of women in the sports.

Commodore Bainimarama also praised the Digicel Fiji Sevens team, saying it is important for the country to stand behind them in defeat as well as in victory.
